Sections of the Indian educated elite seem to think that a Chinese style of government is the only answer.They don’t seem to understand that China oppresses its minorities, stifles dissent and shows no respect to individual freedom. The very freedom we fought more than a hundred years to keep.I have only one question, is there any country in the world that is prosperous, where all citizens are treated fairly and equally but have an authoritarian government? The answer is an emphatic no. Our fascination with the Chinese growth model must not allow us to question or sacrifice the basic tenets of our constitution and our country itself. India is secular and democratic. That is why despite all other problems, the idea of India works.
